History Of The Stamp

This 5-cent stamp commemorating the centennial of the International Red Cross and the organization's contribution to the historic Cuban prisoner exchange was first placed on sale in Washington, DC, on October 29, 1963. Designed by Victor S. McCloskey, Jr., this stamp is based on a photograph of the freighter SS Morning Light, one of the Mercy ships used to return invasion prisoners from Cuba.
