Until 1913....

Banks Issued Demand Drafts. 

Which Were Honored By Both Parties.

Another Word: Bank Check... 

Many Times There Was No Set Name 

On The Face, Used In Business, Like Real Transactions 

For This Type Of Exchange

Prior To  Currency Was Ready Available. 

Remember The Banking System Was A Mess... 

Like, The Civil War (1861).

Coin Of Precious Metal Was A Sure Way To Exchange... 

With An Act Of Congress In 1863 Small Change Became Paper,
